Sowore storms Abia, joins protest for Nnamdi Kanu’s release [VIDEO]

Omoyele Sowore, a publisher and Nigerian activists has joined protesters to march across streets in Aba, Abia state.

The activists and the protesters took to the streets of Abia State’s commercial city to demand the immediate release of the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu.

In a video seen by POLITICS NIGERIA, Sowore was captured marching among scores of residents in Aba while they chanted several songs in solidarity with the convicted IPOB leader.

The protesters were heard chorusing, “Holy, Holy, Holy, Nnamdi Kanu is another saviour”; free Nnamdi Kanu,” among others.

Some of the protesters also carried a large banners with the image of the IPOB leader and inscriptions like “Freedom for Nnamdi Kanu”.

Recall that Kanu was transported to Nigeria following his arrest and detention in Kenya by the Nigerian government in June 2021.

He was later tried and convicted on November 20, 2025, by a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja over terrorism-related charges, including treason and inciting violence through broadcast

Following his conviction, the judge, Justice James Omotosho, ordered that Kanu be transferred from Abuja to the correctional facility in Sokoto to serve his multiple concurrent life sentences.

His conviction and sentencing have been condemned by many individuals, organisations and activists who described his arrest, trial and convictions as being politically motivated.
