BREAKING: Buhari breaks silence on Mali military Coup

President Muhammadu Buhari has finally reacted to the coup d’état that took place in Mali on Tuesday by some mutinying soldiers.

In a series of posts on his Twitter Page on Thursday, President Buhari condemned the rebel soldiers who arrested President, Ibrahim Keita and Prime Minister Boubou Cisse on Tuesday afternoon.

The Nigerian leader warned the mutinying soldiers in Mali, adding that it is time for the unconstitutional ‘authority’ in Mali to act responsibly and ensure restoration of constitutional order, peace and stability.

He wrote: “The events in Mali are great setbacks for regional diplomacy, with grave consequences for the peace and security of West Africa. It is time for the unconstitutional ‘authority’ in Mali to act responsibly and ensure restoration of constitutional order, peace and stability.

“Nigeria strongly supports the efforts of ECOWAS Chairman, President Mahamadou Issoufou, for wider regional and continental consultations with ECOWAS, the AU and the UN, and the adoption of strong measures to bring speedy resolution to the situation.”

The Nigerian President had joined his colleagues from West Africa in a virtual meeting on Thursday to discuss the military coup in Mali that ousted President Keita.
