Corruption Allegation: Presidency comments on Ibrahim Magu’s alleged arrest

Nigerian Presidency has denied media reports that operatives of the Department of State Service (DSS) arrested Ibrahim Magu, the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

It was widely reported that the DSS allegedly arrested Magu over allegations of corruption and money laundering, the report which the DSS spokesman, Peter Afunanya, denied.

“The Department of State Services (DSS) wishes to inform the public that it did not arrest Ibrahim Magu, Acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) as has been reported by sections of the media.”

“The Service, has since, today, 6th July 2020, been inundated with enquiries over the alleged arrest.”

But in a tweet via his Twitter handle on Monday, Bashir Ahmad, the Personal Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on New Media, said the news that Magu was arrested was false.

He revealed that a statement from the DSS rebutted the alleged arrest of Ibrahim Magu as widely reported by the media.
