JUST IN: Gani Adams reacts to extension of Sunday Igboho’s detention

The Aareonakakanfo of Yorubaland, Gani Adams, on Tuesday, described as miscarriage of justice, the continued detention of embattled Yoruba Nation agitator, Sunday Adeyemo, commonly known as ‘Igboho’.

Recall that Yomi Aliyu, counsel to Igboho said on Monday that the government of Benin Republic has extended the activist’s detention period by six months. Adams was not happy with the news.

The Ondo-born activist in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Aderemi, obtained by POLITICS NIGERIA, said the decision is unfair.

“There was miscarriage of justice in the way Igboho’s detention was extended without trial. It is evident that Benin Republic has taken Igboho’s case far beyond the normal legal procedures.

“The extension of the detention of Igboho further exposed the frailty in the administration of justice. The young man’s rights have been abused without trial. He had not been convicted of any offence. The law of any country that claims to be guided by the rule of law should be explicit on the rights of citizens,” Adams was quoted as saying.

Igboho has spent over 200 days in Benin Republic detention since he was arrested at Cotonou airport en route to Germany alongside his wife in July 2020.

  1. Gani Adams has suddenly become an unqualified lawyer or a quack for short. He can identify and describe miscarriage of justice. Incredible! It is only in Nigeria that every Tom Dick and Harry attempts to claim what they are not and jumps into unnecessary forays of misunderstood concepts.
The question remains why the political minion was arrested and incarcerated in the first instance. The sentiment urge-on of the average black man is amusing and belittling. Unfortunately, Benin republic is not Nigeria where anything goes. Of course, he can also claim personal opinion and who says that has to be thoughtless?
