In what will come as a heavy blow to some Lagosians, the Lagos state environmental and special offences enforcement unit has destroyed some shanties along the Lekki coastal road.
Politics Nigeria gathered that the demolition exercise was led by Shola Jejeloye, the chairman of the Lagos task force.
The news outlet also learnt that the area in question had been mapped out to serve as an alternate route for motorists.
This was disclosed in a statement released on Monday, May 1.
The statement also added that the shanties in the area were built under high tension cables.
Meanwhile, speaking on the demolition exercise, Jejeloye said the illegal shanties had become a safe haven for criminals and constituted health risks.
He consequently appealed to residents in the area to report individuals erecting illegal shanties.
