1. Edo 2020: APC Govs, Party Leaders to meet Ize-Iyamu on Tuesday

Ahead of the September 19 Edo governorship election, some All Progressives Congress (APC) governors and party leaders will meet with its governorship candidate, Mr. Osagie Ize-Iyamu, in Abuja on Tuesday. POLITICS NIGERIA understands that President Muhammadu Buhari ordered the convening of meeting in order to ensure that the party wins the governorship election. It was also gathered the party leaders and governors, at the meeting, will review the preparations for the election and fine-tune strategies on how to defeat the incumbent governor, Godwin Obaseki.

2. APC breaks silence on suspension of acting EFCC Chair, Magu

The  All Progressives Congress (APC) has assured Nigerians home and abroad that the administration of
President Muhammadu Buhari will not condole any form of corrupt practices. In a statement signed on Monday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Yekini Nabena, the APC noted that the Buhari-led administration is committed to fighting corruption as promised.

3. Oniru raises alarm over plot to cause crisis in Iruland

Oba Gbolahan Lawal Abisogun II, the Oniru of Iruland, has raised an alarm over plot by some individuals to cause chaos and crisis in his Kingdom. The monarch, who raised the alarm in a statement released by his media office on Monday, explained that some residents are trying to cause confusion and disturb the peace in Iruland under the pretext of staging a protest.

4. “COVID-19 is a conspiracy to reduce global population” – Chris Okotie

One of Nigeria’s foremost Pastor, Chris Okotie, has alleged that the COVID-19 pandemic is a grand conspiracy to reduce the world population. The founder of the Household of God Church, in an 80-minute video on YouTube, accused some powerful individuals and businessmen of being behind the spread of the dreaded virus. He particularly called out the founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates, for leading a global conspiracy to destabilize the world economy and execute a “satanic agenda” against the church.

5. Sexual Harassment Bill targeted at lecturers – ASUU

The Academic Staff Union of Universities, (ASUU) says the recent Sexual Harassment Bill passed by the National Assembly is targeted at its members. Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, the National President of ASUU, made this at a Town Hall meeting on Monday in Jos, the Plateau state capital. The ASUU President described the passage of the bill as a way to victimize university lecturers. Ogunyemi revealed that the passage of the Rape Bill does not go well with the union.

6. Fire breaks out at World Trade Centre, Abuja

An unknown fire has engulfed a section of the World Trade Centre building situated in Abuja, the nation’s capital on Monday. POLITICS NIGERIA understands that the inferno started from the top of the skyscraper and has spread to other parts of the building. As at the time of filing this report, firefighters were yet to be seen at the incident scene.

7. 35 doctors test positive for COVID-19 in Kwara

At least 35 medical doctors have tested positive to COVID-19 pandemic in Kwara state, POLITICS NIGERIA reports. State Chairman, Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) Dr. Kolade Solagberu told reporters in Ilorin, the state capital at this year’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the association. He noted that the association had not recorded any casualty among its members, also advised people to stop unnecessary visits to patients in the hospital.

8. IGP reacts to video of ‘policeman’ standing on civilian’s neck

The Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, has described as misleading a video showing a policeman stamping on the neck of a civilian. POLITICS NIGERIA understands that the viral which was posted by @NigeriaDream, showed the policeman dressed in the police uniform standing on the back of the civilian lying on his stomach on the road. But in a statement on Monday which was released by Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja, DCP Frank Mba, on Monday, Adamu dismissed the video, describing it a ploy to cause crisis in the country.

9. Boko Haram appoints new leader

The Islamic State of West Africa (ISWAP), a faction of the Boko Haram terrorist group, has appointed Amir Goni Maina as the new ‘Governor of the Lake Chad’. This news medium understands that Lake Chad region comprises of Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad and Niger Republic. According to Counter-terrorism and organised crime specialist, David Otto, the terrorist group appointed Maina after Amir Baba Kaka was recently sacked as the Governor in a massive jihadist Leadership shake-up.

10. Buhari ordered DSS Probe of Magu in 2018 – Presidency

The Presidency has disclosed that President Muhammadu Buhari directed the Department of State Services (DSS) to probe the suspended acting chairman of the EFCC, Ibrahim Magu, in 2018. According to a senior presidential aide, the President gave the order after some power brokers pushed for Magu’s nomination as the acting EFCC chairman. He noted that the DSS, during its investigation, uncovered a series of financial irregularities for Magu is now facing a presidential probe for.
