The United Nations has reacted to the recent killing of hundreds of residents of Yelewata town in Benue State.
Antonio Guterres, the Secretary-General of the United Nations on Tuesday said the international organisation is currently monitoring the situation of things in Benue State.
In a statement issued by Farhan Haq, the Deputy Spokesperson for the Secretary-General, the UN condemned the incessant killings in the state.
The statement said, “We’re monitoring the situation.”
Haq added that the Secretary-General condemned in its entirety, the killing of innocent civilians by suspected herdsmen.
He also called on relevant agencies and security operatives to work towards ensuring that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
“The Secretary-General condemns the killing of innocent civilians, including in Nigeria, and we hope that those responsible for this violence will be found and apprehended,” the statement added.
Recall that the Governor of Benue State, Hyacinth Alia had accused some politicians based in Abuja of sponsoring the attacks in the state.
According to the governor, these politicians, through back channels are responsible for the growing crisis in the state.
He also alleged that the killers invaded the affected communities through a nearby river close to the area bordering Nasawara state.

We don’t need you the UN to monitor any thing in Nigeria the only thing we want in Nigeria is division divide the country and let peace be because there’s no how you will join goat and lion in the cage

It’s not enough to say they’re monitoring a situation where innocent helpless civilians, including women and children are being massacre consistently and doing nothing about it, it’s full scale genocide and the international organization needs to do something about it, since our visionless government cannot do anything to protect it’s citizens

It is quite unfortunate that this type of killing is happening in modern day country like Nigeria,and the people that is doing it is well known to government.My greatest surprise is that this killing is happening in APC control state.Nigerian life is meaningless to APC government and Fulanis.If one Fulani is killed before 24hours hundreds of security men will every where to fish out the offenders but Fulanis Wil be in one community burning and killing people for several hours no security men will be see in such places , these are power to prostrate this evil to innocent Nigerians.It hard time for government to enforce these people to stay at their place of origin and rear their animals than to carry it to cause problems to other people

UN, please if you people wants to intervene please do with immediate effect, morethan 500 people has been killed since last year in those communities, we don’t have to wait until they kill every living things in those communities before rendering security helps to them, this killing of innocent men, women and children has to stop for crying out loud
It’s rather unfortunate this is happening under our watch; very sad and pathetic,indeed. What shall be done to these nonstate actors,if they are apprehended…? I ask because nowadays, what I hear is repentant terrorist under the disguise of “rehabilitation”. So, the security agent who had put his life in line sees his efforts as a waste of time. I don’t believe in rehabilitation,or else Jesus would have stopped the thives on the cross from being executed. Let’s stop these bloodbath by an eye for an eye approach.

The UN has his own issues, let them tackle their problem first, no country that doesn’t have issues one way or the other, most of the controversial problems we have today in Nigeria and African continents , is from the western countries( allegedly) so Nigeria is a country that can solve it’s internal problems, if not of the bad governance that we have. Most a time, the confusion here is that is all the insecurities address as the hardsmen,is politicking, just to destabilize the poor, so that an openingis made for foreign aid to destabilize Nigeria.So the UN should allow us to breath, every country has its own shortfall .
