PDP Attacks APC Gov Ahead Of Gubernatorial Election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has joined the list of those condemning the action of Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa over his appointment of 344 special assistants and senior special assistants.

POLITICS NIGERIA understands that Governor Aiyedatiwa a few days ago, announced the appointment of the aides, less than 10 weeks to the November 16 governorship election in the state.

The governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Ebenezer Adeniran, in a statement, said the appointments were in continuation of efforts to enhance governance and service delivery to the people of the state.

The aides, according to Adeniran, comprise 28 Senior Special Assistants and 316 special assistants.

Alarmed by the appointments, the PDP, in a statement on its X handle on Wednesday afternoon, titled “Politics Over People,” called out the governor, arguing that his government prioritizes aides over out-of-school children crises ahead of the governorship election.

The party claimed that the allocation of N1.5 billion to fund employment of these aides, amidst a crisis of over 240,000 out-of-school children in the state by the governor is condemnable.

“The recent allocation of N1.5 billion to fund the employment of 344 special assistants and senior special assistants, amidst a crisis of over 240,000 out-of-school children in Ondo State by the @LuckyAiyedatiwa’s administration is highly condemnable,” the statement reads.

“It is appalling that the government would prioritize political expediency over the education and well-being of children in Ondo State.”
