
Twelve suspects have been arrested by the Nigeria Police Force following the death of two students of the Government Secondary School, Bichi, Kano State.
The students were said to have been brutalised and tortured to death by some seniors inside the hostel of the school.
Confirming the incident, the principal of the school, Yusuf Yakassai said the incident happened at about 11.30 pm on July 14.
Reporting the case to the police in Kano State on July 15, Yakassai said that some senior students lured four students into a hostel where they inflicted various degrees of injuries on them.
He said, “A group of senior students allegedly lured four students Hamza Idris (19), SS3B; Umar Yusuf (18), SS2C; Ibrahim Ibrahim, SS2B; and Aliyu M. Nasir, SS2C into a hostel and inflicted injuries on them over allegations of involvement in unnatural offences.”
He added that while the injured students were immediately taken to Bichi General Hospital Idris and Yusuf were certified dead, while Ibrahim and Nasir were admitted.
He said the two students under hospital admission are responding to treatment.
The police confirming the incident said those arrested include Suleman Abdullahi, Ahmad Sanusi, Lawan Alasan Tambai, Aliyu Idris, Abubakar Abdulaziz (all of SS3A); Ibrahim Nura, Hamza Isiyaku (SS3B); Usaini Mamuda, Masaudu Idris, Yasir Murtala (SS3C); and Abubakar Muhammad (SS3D).
The Kano State Police Command also assured that an investigation into the matter is ongoing and those found culpable will be prosecuted in line with the law.
