A group of ex-soldiers have assembled at the headquarters of the Ministry of Finance in Abuja to protest the non-payment of their benefits by the government.
Recall that the discharged soldiers had called off a previous strike action on August 4, after their meeting with senior officials from the Ministries of Finance and Defence.
The retired soldiers called off the strike over the assurance that their entitlement would be paid by August 10.
However, in a resumed action, the ex-servicemen accused the Federal Government of turning a deaf ear to their plight.
According to the ex-soldiers who converged at the Ministry of Finance on Thursday, the government has failed to honour the promises made to them after their last month’s meeting.
One of the retired soldiers simply identified as Mama G said she has faced untold hardship after the last promises failed to yield results.
“We are here because the promises made to us were never fulfilled. We had no choice but to return to the streets. This time around, the protest will be massive”, Mama G said.
