Tinubu’s govt weaponising poverty – Atiku raises alarm

Atiku Abubakar, a former vice president of Nigeria has accused the President Bola Tinubu-led administration of weaponizing poverty.

While speaking at an event over the weekend, the former vice president said the people are in a quagmire following decisions and policies implemented by the All Progressives Congress party’s leadership.

“This particular government is weaponizing poverty,” Atiku warned.

Also stating that he does not mind people calling him names following his remark, Atiku said he was championing a coalition to rescue Nigerians from poverty.

“You may call me a conspirator, you may call me anything, and that is why we are in this alliance: to make sure we don’t allow them to continue weaponizing poverty,” he said.

He further added that in the past, one could hardly find homeless people on the streets but now, that has become a normal thing with several Nigerians living under the bridges.

“As soon as I finished secondary school, my first location was Kano State. I never saw people sleeping on the streets or outside their shops in Kano State.

“But recently, people are all over the state sleeping under the bridge, in the streets. People who are driven out by poverty and insecurity.

“There is a state agency in Kano that is responsible for providing succour to such people and they started doing their work and enlightening people. Even removing people from under the bridges and the streets. What happened? They were called to Abuja and were told to stop it,” he lamented.
