A horrific assault took place late on Sunday during a Maulud celebration in Kusa, Musawa Local Government Area of Katsina State, as armed bandits struck, resulting in the loss of at least 20 lives and numerous abductions.
The assailants stormed the festive gathering around 11:05 p.m., unleashing chaos and terror by opening fire on the Maulud attendees, causing casualties and severe injuries.
According to a vigilant eyewitness speaking to Vanguard, the attackers surrounded the venue, leaving 20 individuals dead, and many more were forcibly taken captive.
“The aftermath of the attack left 20 lifeless bodies in the community. Several individuals were also forcefully taken captive by the assailants, and their whereabouts are currently unknown,” the source said
Confirming the distressing incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, acknowledged the bandit attack during the Maulud procession.
He reported that the assailants wounded 18 individuals, with two succumbing to their injuries after medical treatment. ASP Sadiq assured ongoing investigations to arrest the perpetrators and ensure justice for the heinous act.
