About 20 people have been reportedly killed in a recent attack by some gunmen in Jebu, Tahos Community of Riyom local government area of Plateau State.
Leadership reports that the gunmen invaded the community on Monday night shooting sporadically at residents.
They were also said to have injured some others and razed buildings in the community during the attack.
Sources privy to the incident said those who sustained various degrees of injury are receiving treatment in some hospitals across the LGA.
Confirming the incident the Chairman and Publicity Secretary of the Coalition for the Protection of Democracy (COPDEM), Gideon Manjal and Gadu Daniel Dong said the attackers invaded the community at about 11 pm on Monday.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, July 15, the duo said innocent residents including women, children and the aged population were not spared by the attackers.
Messers Manjal and Dong called on security operatives and their agencies to come to the rescue of the community and ensure that the suspected criminals are apprehended and made to face justice.
They said, “Our people are being buried daily, we are tired of condolence visits and silence. We are tired of press statements that do not translate to protection.”
The statement also noted that other communities in the state including Jol, Rim, Bachi, Wereng and Nding which were previously attacked also deserve more than sympathy.
