Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that regardless of any intimidation by Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State, he will emerge Nigeria’s next president in 2023.
POLITICS NIGERIA had reported how the Rivers State government sealed off the campaign office of Atiku based on Executive Orders 21 and 22.
The office was said to have been shut for producing noisy political activities in residential areas without approval from the State government.
But reacting through his Special Assistant on Public Communications, Phrank Shaibu, Atiku said the action will not deter him.
“Let me say this, whether the cock crows or not, the sun will rise. Atiku Abubakar will be President by the Special grace of God,” Vangaurd quotes Shaibu as saying.
Over the past months, five PDP governors — Wike, Samuel Ortom of Benue, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Seyi Makinde of Oyo, and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu — have been at the forefront of calls for Iyorchia Ayu to resign as the party’s chairman.
The call for Ayu’s resignation, according to the PDP stakeholders, is that the party’s presidential candidate and national chairman cannot be from the same region.
However, Ayu has maintained that he will not resign.
Amid the crisis, Wike and his allies pulled out of the PDP presidential campaign council.
Gov. Wike must know that Nigeria is a democracy which allows for disagreement or differences of opinion. The desire of Gov. Wike to have his way at all times negate the principles of democracy. He should curb his dictatorial tendencies.
You are right, Nigeria is a democracy, where people have the right to their opinion and speech, and people cannot have their way all the time.
But why has a governor by the name of El-Rufai of Kaduna State imposed his Muslim-Muslim ticket will on every body in a state comprising equal number of Christians and Muslims and you guys are mute silent? Is a Muslim-Muslim government in a plural society a democracy?
Why are you northern Muslims slow to comment about such an aberration but quick to attack someone like Wike who is only airing his views about why a presidential candidate/party chairman
of his party should emerge from the same region?
I am asking because your statement gave out the impression that Wike’s opinion in the matter was undemocratic in a country where Governor El Rufai of Kaduna State has erected the pillars of a theocratic form of givernment with impunity and has forced it down the throats of the indigenes of the state in disregard to all democratic norms.
When it comes down to governance, you guys from the North want things done your way only and every non-northern agenda should perish. Most of your people depend so much on government because they cannot compete with the southerner on a level playing field. For 47 years of Federal Character principle and Quota System which compels the southerner from childhood to an adult to sit on their hands in order to allow you guys from the North to catch up, nothing much has changed from your end. Southerners are still waiting for you to catch up but rather than catching up, you want to produce the political leaders only. Are you surprised that no meaningful development is taking place in Nigeria? It is a country where those who should be playing catch up are leading the government…
Peter, I pray you become the next president of Nigeria. God bless you Sir.
Any other aspirant as Peter Obi for president is a waste. Come Rain Come Sunshine we stand wt Obedient to Aso Rock 2023.
BOTH ATIKU AND TINUBU ARE GOING TO LOSE.
