‘2023 election already won’ – Lagos deputy governor tells opposition, commentators

Olufemi Hamzat, the deputy governor of Lagos, has said that “public commentators are only talking about an already won election”.

Hamzat, on Monday, August 7, noted that such persons were “not saying the truth” about the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS).

The deputy governor made the submission on Monday at the Lateef Jakande Annual Memorial Lecture organised by the Nigerian Guild of Editors.

Hamzat spoke concerning the aftermaths of the 2023 elections and the use of BVAS by the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The deputy governor noted that voting was not done on the BVAS machine but on ballot papers adding that the controversy around the use of BVAS to transmit election results was not needed.

The BVAS continues to be a contentious issue after the 2023 general elections.

Both the Peoples Democratic Party and Labour Party are at the presidential election tribunal, challenging the non-use of the machine by INEC during the presidential poll.
