2023 Election: Atiku beats Tinubu, Peter Obi, to win Sokoto

Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) presidential candidate, has secured victory in the 2023 election in Sokoto State, polling 288,679 votes.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Kabiru Bala, the state collation officer and vice-chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, Kaduna State, presented the results in the early hours of Tuesday.

Bala said Bola Ahmed Tinubu, candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) polled 285,444 votes, Peter Obi, candidate of the Labour Party secured 6,568 and Rabiu Kwankwaso of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) scored 1,300 votes.

The presidential candidates of Accord Party (A) scored 115 votes, Action Alliance (AA) got 110 votes, AAC 128 votes, ADC 486 votes, ADB 1,105 votes and APGA 808 votes.

Sokoto is a PDP state, with Governor Aminu Tambuwal as governor.

In May 2022, Tambuwal stepped down for Atiku in the PDP presidential primary election. His support for Atiku was believed to have been key to the former vice-president getting the PDP presidential ticket.
