As the 2023 general elections draws near, Prince Oyekanmi Yekini Elegushi, an All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives candidate in Lagos State, on Wednesday denied reports that he has stepped down for the incumbent member representing Eti-Osa Federal Constituency, Ibrahim Obanikoro.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Elegushi had won the May 27 primary election of the ruling APC for Eti-Osa Federal Constituency after polling 25 votes to defeat Obanikoro, who garnered 23 votes.
But one Tobi Etti, the Director of Media Unit, Prince Oyekanmi Elegushi Campaign Organisation, reportedly disclosed that the prince has voluntarily withdrawn his candidacy in the contest for the federal constituency seat in deference to the party leadership.
Ibrahim Obanikoro is a son of Musiliu Obanikoro, a former Lagos State governorship aspirant and ex-Minister. Obanikoro Sr. lost at the party’s national assembly primaries.
Reacting to the news, Elegushi said he is still consulting and has not arrived at a decision yet.
“I don’t have any spokesman with the name TOBI ETTI
“I’m still in Consultation with the Party leadership and any decision I make will be made public by me and will be in the interest of the people of Eti-Osa Constituency and my party the All Progressives Congress,” Elegushi said in a statement he signed.
