Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, has not accepted the All Progressives Congress (APC’s) N100 million presidential nomination and expression of interest forms bought for him on Friday by some groups.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that according to a source in the CBN who is close to economist, although Emefiele was aware that some groups were purchasing forms for him, he had yet to accept from anyone.
“Three groups are buying forms for him; Rice Farmers are buying, Emefiele Support Group is buying, Friends of Godwin are buying. But he has not accepted any of the forms yet. Buying forms doesn’t mean he’s running for the Presidency,” Punch quotes the source as saying.
The CBN governor has been rumoured to be in the race for the APC ticket to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari since late 2021.
He has neither refuted nor confirmed the reports, but stated that he was focusing on supporting the present administration’s efforts to strengthen the Nigerian economy.
