As the 2023 election gathers steam, hundreds of members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State on Saturday formally defected to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the defectors were received in Port Harcourt, the state capital, by governor of the state, Nyesom Wike.
Those present include PDP Chairman in Rivers, Desmond Akawor; former Board of Trustees (BoT)’ member of the APC, Sam-Sam Jaja; ex-Commissioner for Sports, Fred Igwe; and hundreds of their followers.
Other former APC members who decamped to the PDP are: Kennedy Ebeku, Tele Bethram Ikuru, Princewill Dike, Sylver Opusunju, Reginald Onwuka, Bestman Amadi, Amadi Nnokam and Muma Gift.
Governor Wike said the defectors came at the right time, noting that the 2023 elections “is not for big men.”
According to Wike, next year’s general election “is not for those who won’t come back home to mobilise their people.”
