A group of women activists, under the aegis of Women for Secured Nation, have urged the president of the African Development Bank (AfDB), Akinwumi Adesina, to run for the office of Nigerian President in 2023.
The group made the call in a statement by its Media and Publicity Director, Judith Onyekwere, on Sunday.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Adesina previously served as Nigeria’s Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development.
“At this point, we don’t just need a politician as president, we need an expert, a technocrat with multinational connection and proven integrity,” the statement read in part.
“This is why we are calling on Nigeria’s former Agriculture minister to take up the challenge, as a call to service, to help rescue Nigeria from its current predicament.”
A year to the to the 2023 presidential election, the search for a new leader for Africa’s most populous country and largest economy – Nigeria – has begun.
Clearly, Adesina, from the Southwest geopolitical zone, has distinguished himself in the business world with sound economic literature, nothing however shows he is able to manage the political side of governance.
