Festus Keyamo, a top member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the minister of state for labour, has said that his party’s excitement about the Peter Obi candidacy is that the Labour Party presidential flagbearer for the 2023 election has brought separatists who are members of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) into the Nigerian political space.
The minister said this on Political Paradigm, a Channels Television programme, on Tuesday. The programme was monitored by POLITICS NIGERIA.
Keyamo, who doubles as spokesman of the Bola Tinubu Campaign Council, made the comment in reaction to a question on the challenge posed by the Obi candidacy to the ruling party.
“We just know that he has brought colour to the campaign. And we also know that he has taken some people away from certain criminal tendencies to political tendency. And we are happy for that. I won’t say more than that. And they know what I’m talking about,” Keyamo said.
“I’m happy that some people have changed the flags on their DP to the Labour Party flag. That’s where we’ve always wanted them to come. We’ve always wanted them to come to the political arena. That’s our excitement.”
When the anchor asked him if he was referring to the banned IPOB group, and told him to be more direct, he replied: “You’ve just mentioned them,” and chuckled.
