With 113 days to the 2023 election, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, has said he will consider a pact with any of his opponents “if there are reasons for us to go into alliances”.
Atiku, a former Vice-President of Nigeria, said this during a recent interview with VOA, monitored by POLITICS NIGERIA.
“Alliances are normal phenomenal in a political dispensation. If there are reasons for us to go into alliances, we will go,” Atiku said.
“For instance, I promise that even if we win overwhelmingly, I am going to set up a government of national unity, meaning that I will reach out to other political parties to participate in the government so that we can bring unity and stability back to the country.
“Unless you have unity and stability in the country, all the programmes you have lined up to implement, you cannot implement.
“We have done that in 1999. PDP won overwhelmingly, but because of the circumstances of the situation in the country, we formed a government of national unity, we brought AD, we brought ANPP and so on, and then, we made a success.
“So we have the experience to do that.”
