The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has said that it will be difficult to rig the 2023 elections.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Nigeria has a history of dodgy elections, and as it is preparing for next year’s poll, many electorates and opposition politicians are concerned about its credibility.
Chairman, INEC, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, while delivering a keynote address at a stakeholders’ conference on election result management in Abuja on Friday said the commission has increased transparency in the election result management process in Nigeria.
The event was put together by YIAGA Africa, a civil society organisation (CSO).
“I can confidently say that the days of wanton manipulation of election results are clearly over,” Prof. Yakubu said.
“Yet, we are not resting on our hoarse knowing that we must remain several steps ahead of those who seek to undermine the system and there are many bad guys in the field trying to undermine the system, but we stand for electoral justice.
“We will make sure that the votes cast by Nigerians are protected and the only determinant of who becomes what in our democracy.
“The importance of IReV to transparency and result management is obvious.”
