As the 2023 election approaches, the camp of the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, has narrowed down on one person for consideration as running mate, POLITICS NIGERIA reports.
It is understood that Tinubu’s camp has narrowed down on Senator Kashim Shettima, a former governor of Borno State.
Barring any last minute-change, Shettima would be unveiled as the running mate of the frontline contender for the 2023 presidency.
Although Babagana Umara Zulum, the Governor of Borno State, was considered for the role, Zulum said he is not interested in becoming Tinubu’s running mate.
If the choice of Shettima is officially announced, it is likely to raise eyebrows as some APC stakeholders, as well as organizations like the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) have frowned against moves by the major political parties to field a Muslim-Muslim ticket.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has set June 17, as the deadline for the submission of candidates for the presidential positions.
