2023: Na’aba, Utomi hit Buhari over rising insecurity, corruption

Some notable Nigerians have launched a group, National Consultative Front (NCFront), to address the problem of bad governance and rescue Nigeria from an imminent collapse.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the major players in the formation of the group are former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Ghali Umar Naaba and former presidential candidate and renowned economist, Prof Pat Utomi.

At a webinar organised to launch the movement on Monday, the duo slammed President Muhammadu Buhari for the rising cases of insecurity and massive corruption cases in the country.

They urged Nigerians to get ready to remove bad leaders from office in 2023 through their votes. The duo added that its plan for a new Nigeria would be made known by January 2021.

Speaking at the event, Na’ Abba said the group had consulted with other political leaders nationwide to make the country great again and hand it over to a new generation of selfless, disciplined and competent political leaders.

Na’aba said the feeling across the land today was that of delusion and hopelessness, adding that the agony and anguish of Nigerians about the deplorable state of the nation was worrisome.

He said, “Hardly can any sector of the country be said to be working as government seems ineffectual, irresponsive and incompetent. Unemployment, particularly among our youths has reached and passed unprecedented levels, while unnecessary loss of human lives due to insecurity has become a recurring decimal with scores of Nigerians being killed on a daily basis.

“Our indebtedness, both internal and external has reached alarming proportions. with the attendant virtual collapse of social and physical infrastructure leading to pervasive and grinding poverty. The way and manner governance is conducted suggests a high degree of irresponsibility at all levels.”

Also speaking, Utomi decried the festering insecurity in the country and the massive looting of the treasury. He, however, said that the group were determined to mobilise Nigerians to insist on the peaceful path of restoring the nation to peace and prosperity.

Utomi said, ” In recent weeks as many of us watched corruption reality shows from the National Assembly, looming constitutional crisis between the executive and legislative arms of government, terror on the streets and our rural backyards, insurgency, and banditry, mixed with harrowing kidnapping and rape cases, we have come to a realisation that the imperative of now is that of awakening Nigerians to the urgency of saving Nigeria. We face an existential crisis today.

“I have pointed to the widespread violence, insurgency, banditry, and crime that is pointing us on the road to Somalia, the crisis in our educational system, and the economic troubles that keep our wellbeing in perpetual recursive mode. Let us speak briefly to two or three of those before the Hon Ghali Na’aba takes over from the Abuja end.

“You could see the purpose of the revolt. It is clear to me from what I can observe that military force can only be one small piece of the solution to the violence crippling the North of our country.

“Poverty and policy failure regarding education and economic growth are critical to reversing the situation. But I do not see effective deployment of soft power in dealing with the issues. As a movement we will question the strategy of the Authorities and offer alternative paths.”
