Joe Igbokwe, an All Progressives Congress (APC) chieftain in Lagos State says people canvassing for another northerner to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023 are “trouble makers”.
POLITICS NIGERIA understands that some persons of northern extraction argue that since Nigeria returned to democracy 22 years ago, the south has governed Nigeria for 13 years (ex-presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan), that is to say, the north as well should govern the country for the same number of years. Northern politicians, late Umaru Musa Yar’Adua and President Buhari have a combine 9 years at the helm of affairs — lesser than the tenure used by presidents of Southern origin. But Igbokwe thinks differently.
“Those who are telling us that the North can still produce the President of Nigeria in 2023 after ruling for 8 years are trouble makers. They cannot get it. They miss the point,” Igbokwe said via his known Facebook page on Monday.
General elections will be held in Nigeria on 18 February 2023 to elect the President, Vice President, House of Representatives, and Senate.
