The spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum (NEF), Hakeem Baba Ahmed has dismissed insinuations that the organisation is “sitting on the fence” over the forthcoming 2023 presidential election.
POLITICS NIGERIA recalls that NEF had last year subjected candidates of various political parties seeking northern votes to a rigorous interrogation exercise to ascertain their capacity to fix Nigeria.
Less than 20 days to the election, NEF is yet to take a definite stance on its preferred candidate. However, Baba-Ahmed has stated that the group will take a decision “when the time is right”.
Peter Obi (Labour Party), Bola Tinubu (All Progressives Congress, APC), Atiku Abubakar (Peoples Democratic Party, PDP), and Rabiu Kwankwaso (New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP) are the four leading candidates.
Just so you know:I am insulted by people who say I or NEF are ‘sitting on the fence’ because we do not do what they want politically. We do not sit on fences, and we are not afraid to take decisions. We will do what we think is right, when the time is right.Stop this childish game.
