A political pressure group, Citizens Network for Peace and Development in Nigeria (CNPD), has advised the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to adopt former President Goodluck Jonathan as the party’s flagbearer in the 2023 presidential election.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the National Coordinator of the CNPD, Ralph Okorie, made this call on Monday at a press conference in Abuja, the Nigerian capital city.
He said ‘GEJ’ as Jonathan is fondly called, is an expert for the top Nigerian job.
“It will be counter-productive to bring an amateur to take over from President Muhammadu Buhari at this material time,” Okorie said.
“It is imperative that Dr Abdullahi Adamu as the National Chairman of APC will use the best man for the job to win this election bearing in mind that anything short of a Jonathan ticket will cost APC the presidency in 2023.”
Meanwhile, the consultation between Jonathan and some leaders of APC for Jonathan to emerge as the presidential candidate has been rejected by support groups working for some presidential aspirants of the party.
Groups loyal to presidential aspirants of the party, including the APC National leader and former Lagos State Governor, Bola Tinubu and Vice-President Prof. Yemi Osinbajo; in separate interviews with the press, dismissed the consensus plot for the ex-President.
