A source, who was a member of the previous National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during the Uche Secondus tenure, has said Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State invited chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to inaugurate some of the projects he executed “to show the world that he had capacity”.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Wike had lost the PDP presidential ticket for the 2023 election to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar in May. The Rivers governor and his supporters are believed to be aggrieved that he was not picked by Atiku as his running mate.
There have been efforts to reconcile the two PDP chieftains.
However, just as the efforts are being made, Wike recently began to invite members of the APC to commission projects constructed by his administration.
In the past couple of weeks, he has hosted several APC chieftains including the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Femi Gbajabiamila; Governor Kayode Fayemi of Ekiti State; Governors Rotimi Akeredolu of Ondo State; and Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State.
The source explained that the purpose Wike was inviting APC chieftains to inaugurate some of the projects he executed was to show the world that he had capacity and had a lot to contribute to the party.
He said: “Defecting to another political party is not on board.”
The source, who played an important role in the sack of Secondus, added: “Wike lost the presidential ticket and the running mate position.
“He is asking for the office of national chairman. If Atiku is sincere, he should allow Iyorchia Ayu to go. He can appoint him as his chief of staff, if he wants to earn the trust of Wike and his supporters. We have a lot to contribute.”
