2023: Shekarau opens up on ‘collecting $1 million to dump NNPP’

Two-term governor of Kano State and Senator representing Kano Central, Ibrahim Shekarau, has quashed rumours that he received $1 million (around N420,900,000) to dump the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for the opposition.

POLITICS NIGERIA had reported that ahead of the 2023 general elections, Shekarau would join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in a few days.

While engaging his followers, the Shura Council, and committees on the current state of affairs in the NNPP, the lawmaker stated that he is not someone who is all about money, pointing out that in fact, he still lives in a rented apartment in Abuja.

“Till [sic] date, I am not saying this for someone to hear, I still live in a rented house in Abuja. I pray God brings the money that I will build mine,” Shekarau said.

He added that while a plot of land is unarguably precious in Kano State, he did not allocate one foot of land to himself in his eight years as governor.
