2023: “Shekarau will never leave PDP” – Melaye

A senator in the 8th National Assembly and spokesperson for the Atiku Abubakar Campaign Organisation, Dino Melaye, has vowed that a former Kano State Governor and current Senator representing Kano Central, Ibrahim Shekarau, who rejoined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Monday, will not leave the party again.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that ahead of the 2023 election, Shekarau completed a defection circle hobnobbing with three political parties within a period of three months.

The lawmaker last week dumped the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) which he joined after leaving the All Progressives Congress (APC) in May.

Prior to the 2015 general elections, he was a member of the PDP. He left in September 2018.

His constant decamping has caused some political observers to describe him as a “serial defector”. But Melaye is holding brief for him.

“You can write it down and take it to the bank, he (Shekarau) is not going to leave the PDP,” Melaye said during a recent interview with Arise TV.

“He is here for good. And he didn’t come alone. He came with all his supporters, hundreds of thousands of them.

“And I want to assure you that we are all going to join hands together to rescue this country.”
