2023: Tinubu’s camp speaks on dropping Shettima

Loyalists of Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in respect of the 2023 election, have said that the former Lagos State governor is not contemplating substituting Kashim Shettima as his running mate before the deadline of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) on Friday.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that since Tinubu announced Shettima as his running mate on Sunday, reactions have continued to trail his choice, as both men are Muslims.

The spokesman for the Tinubu Campaign Organisation, Bayo Onanuga, told the press: “That is not possible. There is nothing like that going on within Tinubu’s camp. We have seen this move before; all these campaigns to pitch us against fellow Nigerians.”

Meanwhile, the APC Support Network has accused those attacking Tinubu for picking a fellow Muslim as running mate of plotting to distract him from focusing on winning the 2023 election.

In a statement by its South-South Zonal Publicity Secretary, Obasogie Fred, the group argued that “those haggling and shouting down on Asiwaju Tinubu are deliberately employing distractive tendencies to misdirect the candidate and the party from the onerous task ahead”.
