2023: UK sends message to Tinubu, INEC, others

The United Kingdom (UK) has said it is “ready to work closely with all partners and Nigerians to ensure credible, free and fair elections in 2023”.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Catriona Laing, the British High Commissioner to Nigeria said this on Tuesday via her verified Twitter handle.

Laing on Monday led a delegation to visit the All Progressives Congress (APC’s) Presidential candidate, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu in Abuja.

“My team and I had a good meeting with the Presidential Candidate of @OfficialAPCNg, @officialABAT to discuss his campaign plans and priorities for Nigeria.

“@UKinNigeria is ready to work closely with all partners and Nigerians to ensure credible, free and fair elections in 2023,” her post reads.

Meanwhile, despite the assurance of a credible election by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), a former Chairman of the National Human Rights Commission, Prof Chidi Odinkalu, has said he doubts if the electoral body can guarantee a credible election in 2023.

Odinkalu, who was speaking recently on the 2023 elections and the challenges facing Nigeria, made the observation during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today.

The former NHRC boss claimed that INEC cannot safely deploy election workers to many parts of the country because of insecurity.
