Joe Igbokwe, the Special Adviser on Drainage and Water Resources to the Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, says the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) still needs Rauf Aregbesola, Minister of Interior, “to win the coming elections”.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that according to Igbokwe, Aregbesola, a former Osun State Governor, is a colossal figure in Nigerian politics, who shouldn’t be “dismissed”.
Igbokwe further advised detractors of Aregbesola to “stop”, as electorates prepare for the 2022 Osun State gubernatorial election and the 2023 Nigerian presidential election.
The Lagos APC chieftain’s remarks on Sunday is coming on the heels of the Osun State APC Primary Election held on Saturday, which was won by Governor Adegboyega Oyetola.
Oyetola won the election, having garnered 222,169 votes, against 12,921 votes that his closest challenger, Moshood Adeoti got. Another of Oyetola’s challenger, Lasun Yusuf, got 460 votes and placed third.
Adeoti, a former chairman of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) before it merged with the APC, is the anointed candidate of Aregbesola for the party’s governorship ticket. But he didn’t win.
“Honourable Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola is still a bonafide member of APC Nigeria. You cannot dismiss a two-term Governor, and a sitting federal Minister. We need him to win the coming elections. Stop the distraction,” Igbokwe wrote on his known Facebook page.
