Deji Adeyanju, a former youth leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday said in respect of the 2023 presidential election, the South-West “should not even be in the picture at all”.
According to Adeyanju, power should “naturally” go to the Southeast region.
He argued that with eight years of Olusegun Obasanjo presidency, and the same amount of years of Professor Yemi Osinbajo’s Vice-presidential role, the Yoruba of Southwestern Nigeria should not be demanding that the two big political parties zone the presidency to them.
Furthermore, the social commentator was not impressed that ‘both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) are not considering Southeast at all’.
“Equity demands that power should naturally go to the South East. The South West should not even be in the picture at all. 8yrs of OBJ + 8yrs of Osinbajo but this country is very unfair. However, both APC & PDP are not even considering SE at all,” Adeyanju wrote on his known Twitter handle.
This newspaper reports that some of the Southeast presidential aspirants are Dave Umahi, Orji Uzor Kalu, Anyim Pius and Rochas Okorocha. All are aiming to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari, a northerner.
