Although they did not speak with newsmen after their meeting on Sunday, sources from the government circle have disclosed that the aggrieved governors on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), held the meeting to discuss the prospect of supporting the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, in the 2023 presidential election.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the governors’ meeting comes two days after the Labour Party presidential candidate visited Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State for the third time since the PDP presidential primary in May.
Aside from Wike of Rivers State, others in attendance were Governors Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Makinde of Oyo State, and the host, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State.
Also, according to sources, the PDP governors discussed Alhaji Atiku Abubakar’s visit to Enugu, as well as the former vice-president’s visit to Wike in Abuja, both last week.
This newspaper learned that the governors are bent on the resignation of Iyorchia Ayu as the National Chairman of the PDP before any positive parley with Atiku in respect of his 2023 presidential ambition can hold.
