The World Igbo Congress (WIC) has accused the Imo government of arming “non-state actors” to wreak havoc on communities in the state.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that WIC on Tuesday evening lamented the insecurity being experienced in southeast, particularly Imo state. It asked the political elites to fix their ancestral land first, before jostling for the 2023 presidency.
This newspaper recalls that last Saturday, some houses belonging to suspected members of banned Eastern Security Network (ESN) and the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) were set ablaze in Umuonyeoka Ihitteafoukwu and Okponkume communities in Ahiazu Mbaise council of Imo State, reportedly by law enforcement agents.
It was also gathered that the activities of the acclaimed state-owned security outfit, Ebubeagu, has forced villagers to abandon their homes in some Imo Local Government Areas (LGAs).
Reacting to the situation, WIC lamented the ‘failure’ of the government.
“The failed government of Imo state has armed nonstate actors with guns to unleash mayhem on peace-loving people who rejected and opposed their politics. While our political elicits are hustling for Nigerian Presidency when our homeland is on fire,” WIC’s tweet reads.
