As political parties gear up for the 2023 presidential election, a former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose on Wednesday evening asked his party, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to adopt zoning.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Fayose joined the presidential race, and picked up his form in Abuja earlier today.
On Tuesday, he had withdrawn his membership of the PDP Zoning Committee.
“I don’t believe in not zoning this presidential ticket. I believe the zoning committee made an error. It was wrong. But to be fair to them, they didn’t make such statement (that they have thrown the presidential ticket open),” Fayose said while speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today.
He added: “The only solution is that zoning, nothing more.”
‘Oshoko’ as Fayose is fondly called, vowed not to step down for anyone, saying, “who knows if it is me Nigerians are waiting to vote for?”
Fayose was a two time governor of Ekiti State. He is currently standing trial for alleged corruption while in office.
