2025 UTME error: Southeast senators issue strong warning to JAMB

Senators from the Southeast region have issued a warning to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) over its flawed 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).

In a statement issued on Saturday, the chairman of the caucus, Enyinnaya Abaribe, said a recurrence of such error, which affected candidates from all the states in the region and Lagos State, would not be tolerated.

Abaribe, however, commended the examination body and its registrar, Ishaq Oloyede, for admitting the error and seeking ways to remedy the situation.

He said the Southeast senators’ caucus needs reassurance from JAMB that such an incident would be avoided in the future.

He said, “The so-called glitch, as curious and suspicious as it were, is enough to erode confidence and dangerously lower national pride among the future generation.

“That the glitch happened in the whole of South-East raises pertinent questions that must be answered by JAMB to assuage the growing frustrations and fears among the people of the region, particularly the children who are directly at the receiving end,” Abaribe said.

Also stating that education is key to every nation’s development, the lawmaker said the caucus is on high alert and under pressure from the region to ensure that the right thing is done by JAMB.
