Former VP Atiku reacts to son’s decision to join APC

The former Vice President of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar, has reacted to his son, Abba Abubakar’s, decision to join the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

In a statement issued on Thursday, the two-time presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) described his son’s decision to become a member of the APC as a personal matter.

Recall that POLITICS NIGERIA had reported that Abba joined the dumped the PDP for the APC while openly declaring support for President Bola Tinubu and his second-term ambition ahead of the forthcoming 2027 general election.

Received by the Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin and other Northeast APC leaders in the National Assembly, Abba said his decision followed the quality of leadership which the APC exhibits.

Reacting to this, his father, the former vice president and now a leader of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) said such choices are neither unusual nor alarming, even when family and politics intersect.

“As a democrat, I do not coerce my own children in matters of conscience, and I certainly will not coerce Nigerians.

“What truly concerns me is the poor governance of the APC and the severe economic and social hardships it has imposed on our people.

“I remain resolute in working with like-minded patriots to restore good governance and offer Nigerians a credible alternative that brings relief, hope, and progress,” Atiku stated.
