Human parts found in passengers’ luggage as police stop commercial vehicle on Lagos–Ibadan road

Operatives of the federal highway patrol on the Lagos–Ibadan expressway in Oyo state have recovered a red cloth containing bones and items suspected to be parts of a human corpse concealed among passengers’ luggage.

Adewale Osifeso, spokesperson of the Oyo State Police Command, disclosed the development in a statement issued in Ibadan on Sunday.

Osifeso said the driver of the commercial vehicle, Kazeem Ayegbo, travelling from Lagos to Osogbo, was apprehended during a routine stop-and-search operation.

Part of the statement read: “Operatives of the federal highway patrol intercepted a commercial vehicle during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Lagos–Ibadan expressway near Guru Maharaji Village.

“A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of a red cloth containing bones and other items suspected to be parts of a human corpse, concealed among the luggage. The driver, Kazeem Ayegbo (male), travelling from Lagos to Osogbo, was apprehended.”

Osifeso said investigations had commenced to determine the origin and intended purpose of the recovered items.

“Investigative efforts have been extended beyond Oyo state to identify and apprehend all persons connected with the incident,” he said.

He added that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The command assured residents that the case was being handled with professionalism and diligence.

Osifeso reiterated the police’s commitment to ensuring all offenders are brought to justice and urged the public to continue providing credible information.
