Delta Youths Endorse Okowa to Unseat Ned Nwoko for Senate in 2027

Delta youths have thrown their weight behind former Delta State Governor, Dr Ifeanyi Okowa, urging him to contest the Delta North senatorial seat in the 2027 general election.
The youths believe his entry into the race will reshape representation in the district and challenge the current holder of the seat, Senator Ned Nwoko.
The call came from the Ndokwa Youth Leaders Assembly, a sociopolitical youth group operating across Delta State. The group openly appealed to Okowa to declare his interest in the 2027 Senate contest, describing the move as timely and necessary for the future of Delta North.
According to the youths, Okowa remains “the most credible, unifying and development-rooted figure capable of giving the district strategic and high-impact representation at the National Assembly.”
They argued that the district needs experience, influence, and purposeful leadership in the Red Chamber.
Senator Ned Nwoko currently represents Delta North at the National Assembly. Although he won the seat on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, he defected to the All Progressives Congress in early 2025. His defection followed political disagreements involving Okowa and the incumbent governor, Sheriff Oborevwori.
The youths’ position was made public through a statement issued in Ogume, Ndokwa West Local Government Area. The statement was signed by the National President of the group, Mr Enebeli Brown. Copies were later circulated to journalists in Warri.
In a show of commitment, the youth leaders pledged to fully fund the purchase of Okowa’s expression of interest and nomination forms if he agrees to run.
They explained that the effort is not driven by political elites but by ordinary people seeking better governance.
The group said the push for Okowa’s candidacy is “based on Dr Okowa’s tested competence, administrative maturity, bridge-building capacity, and visible investment in human and infrastructural development across Delta North during the period he served as Governor of Delta State.”
Moreover, they maintained that Delta North now needs “a senator with both national leverage and local content, a mix that Okowa already embodies.” According to them, effective representation goes beyond occupying a seat in Abuja.
The youths warned that the district “cannot afford another ceremonial occupier in the red chamber.” They stressed that Delta North deserves “a result-driven negotiator who commands respect and maintains responsibility at home.”
As part of the move to draft Okowa into the race, the group announced plans to begin a structured signature mobilisation tour across communities in the district. The exercise is expected to formally demonstrate grassroots support for his candidacy.
The Ndokwa Youth Leaders Assembly also appealed to traditional rulers, women groups, professional associations, and political stakeholders across Delta North.
They urged them to “rise above ethnic tendencies” and rally behind Senator (Dr) Ifeanyi Okowa, whose “competence and credibility are already verifiable.”
