2027: Kwankwaso Holds High-level Talks With Obi, ADC, and Opposition Leaders

The former presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso is intensifying consultations with key opposition figures across the country ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The former Kano Governor is said to be engaging widely with leaders outside his party, signaling early moves toward a broad opposition coalition against the ruling government.

According to information made available to POLITICS NIGERIA, Kwankwaso has recently held discussions with major political actors, including figures within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the last election, Peter Obi, and former Minister of Transportation and ex-presidential aspirant, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi.

The engagements are not limited to individuals alone. Kwankwaso is also said to be in contact with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and other influential opposition stakeholders as part of a wider effort to close ranks ahead of 2027.

Speaking on the ongoing consultations, a source familiar with the talks explained that Kwankwaso is keeping his options open while engaging all relevant blocs within the opposition space.

“Kwankwaso is a politician. He is talking to all the groups. I know he is talking to ADC people, he is talking to Obi, he is talking to Amaechi. He is talking to the PDP.

“We are discussing with a view to bring all the opposition together,” he said.

The discussions, according to the source, are focused on building unity among opposition parties and individuals who share similar concerns about the direction of the country and the performance of the current administration.

The source also disclosed that former President Olusegun Obasanjo is playing a quiet but influential role in encouraging opposition forces to work together. He added that dissatisfaction with the federal government cuts across party lines and regions.

“It is not only Obasanjo. All Nigerians leaders are unanimous about a change in government. Everybody believes that the current administration is not doing well. The reason Obasanjo is mentioned is because he is the only one that is outspoken,” the source concluded.
