The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to restoring enduring peace and security in Plateau during a courtesy visit to the state governor, Caleb Mutfwang.

Shaibu gave the assurance on Tuesday, at the Government House in Jos as part of his operational and familiarisation tour of Army formations in Plateau State.

The Army chief commended the Plateau State Government for its continued support to the Nigerian Army, particularly the Armoured Corps, describing the state as a strategic partner and the home of the corps.

He acknowledged that the security challenges confronting the state were complex but insisted they could be overcome through sustained collaboration, intelligence sharing and the collective efforts of all stakeholders.

“The Nigerian Army will continue to deploy its personnel and resources professionally to mitigate security threats and ensure the protection of lives and property. With all hands on deck, lasting peace on the Plateau is achievable,” Shaibu said.

Responding, Governor Mutfwang congratulated the COAS on his appointment as the 25th Chief of Army Staff and wished him a successful tenure.

The governor praised the sacrifices, professionalism and gallantry of Army personnel across the country and specifically commended troops under Operation ENDURING PEACE for their proactive efforts, which he said ensured peaceful Christmas and New Year celebrations in Plateau State in 2025.

The visit underscored the importance of continued civil–military collaboration involving the Nigerian Army, state governments and traditional institutions in strengthening peace, stability and national security.
