Ekweremadu’s wife returns to Nigeria after serving a jail term in UK prison

Beatrice, the wife of a former deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu has returned to Nigeria, two years after serving a jail term in a prison in the United Kingdom.

The former lawmaker’s wife was convicted alongside her husband over her role in an organ harvesting conspiracy.

While her husband got a nine-year and eight-month sentence as the principal driver in the matter, Beatrice was sentenced to four years and six months for facilitating the travel plans for Ukpo David, a 21-year-old street trader from Nigeria.

The couple had contacted Ukpo through a middleman to harvest his kidney for their daughter Sonia who is suffering from a chronic kidney disease

They were convicted alongside Obinna Obeta, a medical “middleman,” who continues to serve a 10-year jail term in the UK following their prosecution under the UK’s Modern Slavery Act 2015.

Upon her arrival, Beatrice was received at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport Abuja by friends and relatives on Tuesday, January 21, after the long legal saga which started in 2022.

POLITICS NIGERIA also gathered that her return has sparked a wide celebration in her hometown in Mpu, Aninri Local Government Area (LGA) of Enugu State where many are expecting her homecoming.

Her husband, the former lawmaker remains in the UK prison where he is still serving his own sentence.
