Seun Kuti Issues Strong Warning to Wizkid — Remove My Father’s Tattoo or Face Consequences

Afrobeat musician Seun Kuti has openly warned Grammy-winning singer Wizkid over the tattoo of his late father, Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, inked on the singer’s arm.
The warning comes amid rising tensions on social media, where debates around legacy, respect, and cultural ownership have continued to intensify.
In a video shared on his Instagram page, Seun Kuti made it clear that he was not interested in mediation or public appeals for calm.
He dismissed claims that Wizkid’s tattoo of Fela is a sign of honour or admiration, describing such arguments as misleading.
Addressing Wizkid directly in the video, Seun said:
“What I want to happen has finally happened. Your game of replacing Fela has been stopped. Your infiltration of my family has been stopped, and nobody in the world will ever take you seriously when you try to leech off that legacy again.”
He further issued a personal warning tied specifically to the tattoo, stating:
“And my father’s tattoo on your hand—if you don’t take it off, you will never make any progress with that hand again. You should better replace that tattoo with your father’s face. If Burna Boy could come out and say Fela is greater, who is this short man?”
Seun’s comments have sparked mixed reactions online, with fans divided over whether the tattoo represents tribute or overreach.
While some supporters of Wizkid argue that the singer has consistently celebrated Nigerian music legends, others believe Seun’s concerns reflect deeper issues around ownership of Fela’s legacy.
The dispute has not been limited to Seun alone. Other members of the Kuti family have reportedly expressed displeasure over what they see as the repeated use of Fela’s image and name without consent or direct family involvement.
Despite the growing controversy, Wizkid has remained publicly silent on Seun’s warning.
However, the singer recently premiered his long-awaited documentary, Long Live Lagos, which debuted on HBO just days after the social media exchanges escalated.
