Female police officer demoted for violating social media policy

A female police officer, Anemena Favour has been demoted from the rank of Sergeant to corporal for violating the Nigeria Police Force’s policy on the use of social media.
According to Sahara Reporters, Favour, with force number 068919 and attached to a Special Protection Unit (SPU) Base 25 in Asaba, Delta State, was demoted over what the police described as “discreditable conduct” and disobedience of lawful orders.
Problem began for Favour after she conducted a live TikTok broadcast dressed in the police uniform – a violation of established regulations and conduct of officers within the force.
It was gathered from police sources that Favour is facing disciplinary action which is a sequel to a review of an orderly-room proceeding by the Department of Finance and Administration at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.
Found guilty under Paragraphs E(iii) and F of Police Regulation 370, Act 2, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN) 2020, the female officer was immediately demoted.
A police source said, “The defaulter was found guilty as charged.”
He also said that the DFA upheld the sanctions meted to Favour – including the demotion of rank – which is aimed at serving as a deterrent to other officers.
He added that all relevant departments within the Police Force have been directed to update their files to reflect Favour’s new tank.
