Controversial pastor, Chris Okafor, asks National Assembly to regulate the internet

Pastor Chris Okafor, the founder of the Mountain of Liberation and Miracle Ministry, has decried cyberbullying and called on the National Assembly to regulate Nigeria’s cyberspace.

Okafor spoke on Thursday at a news conference in Lagos where he expressed displeasure with the activities of bloggers and online influencers in the country.

“Nigeria must find a way to safeguard its internet space, especially to ensure that innocent citizens do not get shattered over lies, demeaning their image,” he said.

He said there is a need for the National Assembly to enact legislation that would regulate the internet and ensure offenders are punished as a deterrent to others.

Okafor also urged the cyber police to do more to trace internet-related offences and apprehend offenders.

In November 2025, Doris Ogala, a Nollywood actress, accused Okafor of a long-term affair, breaking a promise to marry her, murdering her brother, and burying the head of an unidentified person at his church altar in the Ojodu area of Lagos state.

The pastor said that while what he described as a media trial was ongoing, bloggers and influencers bullied him over the allegations without evidence or hearing from him.

His words: “Many Nigerians have suffered and are still suffering from the lies of bloggers, and most often, they get away with it after destroying the image of their targets.

“Very few times, some of the influencers were arrested and dragged to court, but 90 per cent of them often go free for far-fetched lies against people.

“There is so much about the matter that meets the ordinary eye, and so many unanswered questions and glaring lies.”

He said his ex-wife also accused him of attempting to rape their daughter and contacted a popular blogger to demand about ₦80 million for the child’s school fees and upkeep.

“All these began after my plan to remarry was leaked by our wedding planner, all hell broke loose, and everyone tried to cash in on it,” he said.

Okafor said he instituted divorce proceedings in 2024 over alleged infidelity, violence and lack of love.

“At no point during the proceedings did my ex-wife mention I was trying to defile our daughter, the court awarded me custody of our children, and no one queried those allegations.

“In the 55 years of my existence on earth, I have never been arrested for any crime or offence, it is so sad how far people can go to destroy,” he added.
