BREAKING: Federal Court Nullifies PDP Ibadan National Convention, Bars Turaki

A Federal High Court sitting in Ibadan has delivered a landmark judgment nullifying the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Convention held in the Oyo State capital on November 15, 2025.

The presiding judge ruled that the exercise was conducted in flagrant disregard of subsisting legal orders and party guidelines, thereby rendering the outcomes of the gathering null and void.

In a sweeping directive, the court also “barred Turaki and others from parading themselves as national officers of the PDP.”

This order effectively strips the newly elected leadership of their titles and authority, creating a significant power vacuum within the nation’s main opposition party.

The court held that since the foundation of the convention was legally flawed, no legitimate leadership could emerge from it.

Moreover, the legal challenge was brought forward by aggrieved stakeholders who argued that the convention committee failed to address fundamental issues regarding delegate lists and state congresses.

They contended that proceeding with the Ibadan event was an illegality that could not be allowed to stand. The judge agreed, noting that political parties must operate within the ambit of the law and their own constitutions.
