Zamfara SSG’s Brother Dumps PDP for APC Ahead of 2027

The brother of the Secretary to the State Government of Zamfara has left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The defection involves Alhaji Bello Nakwada, a close relative of the Secretary to the Zamfara State Government, Bello Nakwada. His move is being seen as another boost for the APC ahead of next year’s election.
The development was announced in Gusau by the APC Publicity Secretary in Zamfara State, Malam Yusuf Idris. He confirmed that the defection took place in Abuja, where the new members were formally received by senior APC leaders.
According to Idris, the former PDP chieftain played a key role in the 2023 governorship election as one of the sponsors of Governor Dauda Lawal’s campaign. His exit from the PDP is therefore considered politically significant.
Another notable defection also occurred at the same time. The PDP chairmanship aspirant for Gusau Local Government Area during the last council election, Hon. Hassan Idris Gusau, also joined the APC with several of his supporters.
Idris said the two politicians were received by the Minister of State for Defence, Dr. Bello Matawalle, in Abuja.
He stated:
“In another landmark defection ahead of the 2027 General Elections, the younger brother of the Secretary to the Zamfara Government,
Alhaji Bello Nakwada has announced his defection from the PDP to the APC.
Nakwada is one of Gov. Dauda Lawal’s campaign sponsors during the 2023 election.
Similarly, the PDP’s Gusau Local Government Area Chairmanship aspirant in the last local government election in the state, Hon. Hassan Idris Gusau, has abandoned the PDP for the APC.
Both former prominent PDP figures were happily received alongside some of their supporters by the Hon. Minister of State for Defence, Dr Bello Matawalle, in Abuja on Thursday.”
The defectors praised the internal structure of the APC and described the party as united and accommodating. They said members were treated fairly, regardless of status or background.
Idris added:
“They declared their complete loyalty to the APC and its leaders, assuring that already their supporters and well-wishers had fully supported the defection and promised to work for the success of the APC.”
While welcoming them into the party, Matawalle assured the new members that they would enjoy full rights and benefits within the APC. He also urged them to mobilize their followers to register officially with the party.
He encouraged them to take part in the ongoing electronic registration exercise and strengthen the APC’s grassroots structure across Zamfara State.
The latest defections are expected to further weaken the PDP in Zamfara, as several influential figures continue to abandon the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
